condominiumsNightlife is one of the reasons many people choose condominiums in Makati City. Apart from the fast-paced work climate, the delightful meals from the finest restaurants, and the modern, classy lifestyle of the area, Makati is also home to some of the Philippines’ talented live bands. Scattered around the city are many bars where you can enjoy a great night of chow, drinks, and music anytime of the week.

Here are Makati City’s top five places for live performances:

Martinis

Apart from the reputation of serving some of the city’s great tasting martinis for which it was named, Martinis also offers a great dose of jazz and bossa nova acts. Housed comfortably in Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Martinis has always been a place of memorable nights out. Recently, they expanded their musical acts to include multiple genres from the popular music of the ‘80s to house tunes.

Penguin Café

Penguin wasn’t a Makati bar by nature, but since it left its initial home in Manila, it became a staple name in Makati’s music scene. Located at Kamagong Street in San Antonio Village, it is one of the most renowned and time-honored art and music bars in Metro Manila. Expect a lot of world music and jazz from performers of this bar, such as Brass Munkeys, Johnny Alegre, and Kalayo (formerly Pinikpikan).

Handlebar Bar and Grill

The establishment’s manager summarizes Handlebar as a place for bikes, babes, steaks, and rock ‘n’ roll. True enough, this expat watering hole on Polaris Street, Bel-Air offers an unpretentious atmosphere with an outdoor grill. Live acts such as Pinoy rock legends Pepe Smith and Wally Gonzales, along with notable bands General Luna, Razorback, and Tempestuous Jones perform here.

B-Side at Collective

In an old warehouse on Malugay Street, Brgy. San Antonio is B-Side. It’s right in the center of The Collective, a one-stop nighttime destination for dining, entertainment, and shopping. It’s a comfortable place for lovers of the hipster culture. During its Irie Sunday, reggae and dub step are the stars of the night. Food is great with beer, as well.

SaGuijo Bar + Café

Guijo St., Brgy. San Antonio – this is where SaGuijo Bar + Café is. For any OPM enthusiast, the live music scene would never be complete without this place. Bands range from college startups to some of the biggest acts today, such as Up Dharma Down, Ebe Dancel, Pedicab, and Taken by Cars.
