The pump for both systems, sourced from reputable pump suppliers, is arguably their most important constituent. It might from time to time, however, be plagued by different issues with the most common being reduced flow. Here are some common causes of low flow rate in HVACr pumps.
Reversed Impeller Rotation
This is among the most common causes of low flow in pumps. When wiring your pump’s motor to the power, it is prudent to ensure the motor is turning the right way. If your motor is rotating in the wrong direction, it often results in low flow through your vents and might seriously damage your HVAC’s or refrigerator’s interior components.
The interior components of your pump should be cleaned at least bi-annually. Failure to schedule cleaning results in clogged suction pipes. The debris will impede the flow of air and liquid to your pump and results in less output from it. Debris in your pump’s impeller also contributes to low flow.
Worn Out Interior Parts
The most commonly worn out parts of a heat pump are the wear plates, wear rings and impellers. If your impeller’s vanes or the wear plate and ring are broken, this reduces your pump’s hydraulic capacity. The clearances will open up resulting in more air circulating inside the pump hence decreasing your pump’s output.
Low flow due to the above causes will typically cause issues with your overall HVAC unit and refrigerator. It is hence vital to call an expert to fix the problem immediately after you notice it. Regular servicing by your pump’s supplier will however considerably reduce the risk of the above causes of low flow.
